If you're a regular WhatsApp user, this news might be important for you. Starting May 5, WhatsApp will stop working on three specific iPhone models, according to reports. The popular messaging app, owned by Meta, will no longer support these devices—forcing affected users to upgrade their phones.

Which Phones Will Lose WhatsApp Support?

As per a report by the Daily Mail, WhatsApp will stop functioning on the following iPhones:

  • iPhone 5s

  • iPhone 6

  • iPhone 6 Plus

These devices run on iOS versions older than 15.1, which no longer receive regular security updates. WhatsApp depends on these updates for its core functionalities and safe operation. That’s why Meta has decided to discontinue support on these outdated models.

Who Is Affected?

Only iPhone users running iOS 15.1 or earlier will be impacted. If you're using an Android phone, there's no need to worry. However, iPhone users with older models are advised to upgrade their devices if they want to continue using WhatsApp without interruptions.

WhatsApp’s Official Stand

A WhatsApp spokesperson stated that the company reviews older software versions each year and discontinues support accordingly. So far, WhatsApp has supported iPhones running iOS 12 or newer. Now, only devices running iOS 15.1 or above will continue to receive updates and support.

Why This Matters

With over 2 billion users, WhatsApp is the most widely used messaging app in the world. If you're using an iPhone 5s, iPhone 6, or iPhone 6 Plus, it’s important to note that Apple has already stopped releasing security updates for these models—marking them officially outdated.

Instagram and Spotify May Also Be Affected

It’s worth noting that when WhatsApp support ends for older devices, other apps like Instagram and even Spotify may also stop working. Since both WhatsApp and Instagram are owned by Meta, this change could affect access to multiple apps on the same devices.
