Virat Kohli is likely to announce retirement from Test cricket and has no plans to travel to England for the five-match series. He has already informed the Board of Control for Cricket in India about his decision but the top brass has urged him to reconsider the decision.

“He has decided to leave Test cricket and has informed the top officials of the Indian Cricket Board. However, he has been urged to rethink as India will play five crucial Tests in England,” sources told the Indian Express.

Rohit Sharma recently bid adieu to Test cricket. Ajit Agarkar-led selection committee will meet in a few days to pick the squad for the upcoming matches.

Kohli wanted to move on from the Test cricket after his failures in the Border Gavaskar Trophy in Australia. If Kohli doesn’t change his decision, it will impact the middle-order of the sub-continent team.

The 36-year-old Kohli has been a part of 123 Tests and has accumulated 9,230 runs at an average of 46.85. During the tour of Australia, he scored his runs at an average of 23.75 from five Tests.

He had already retired from T20Is after India lifted the ICC T20 World Cup trophy in West Indies last year. However, he showed his class during the IPL 2025 with 505 runs in 11 innings, including seven fifties, at a strike rate of 143.46.
