New Delhi Drones, including suspected armed drones, have been seen at 26 places along the International Border and the Line of Control (LoC) with Pakistan, according to a press statement released by the Ministry of Defence on Saturday.
According to the press release, the places include Baramulla, Srinagar, Avantipora, Nagrota, Jammu, Ferozpur, Pathankot, Fazilka, Lalgarh Jatta, Jaisalmer, Barmer, Bhuj, Kuarbet, and Lakhi Nala.
“Unfortunately, an armed drone targeted a civilian area in Ferozpur, resulting in injuries to members of a local family,” a Ministry spokesperson said. Security personnel have cleaned the scene and given medical attention to the wounded.
“All of these airborne threats are being detected and neutralised by counter-drone technologies as part of the Indian Armed Forces’ heightened level of readiness. Everywhere appropriate, swift action is being taken, and the situation is being closely and continuously monitored.”
There is no need to panic, but increased awareness and care are crucial, the Ministry of Defence said, urging people to stay inside, avoid needless movement, and closely adhere to safety instructions given by local authorities, particularly in border regions.
Earlier on Friday, India’s Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri said that Pakistan’s “duplicity” was shown by its “farcical denials” about its intentions to strike Indian military sites.
He also said that India has “adequately” and “proportionately” reacted to Pakistan’s efforts.
According to Indian Army Colonel Sofiya Qureshi, Pakistan launched 300–400 drones to 36 different places on the intervening night of May 8–9. A preliminary investigation revealed that Turkey’s SONGAR drones were utilised in the operations.
Colonel Qureshi said that both kinetic and non-kinetic techniques had been used to “neutralise” the drones. He also mentioned that the Indian Armed Forces had stopped a Pakistani UAV’s attempt to assault a military facility in Bathinda.
A high-level meeting involving NSA Ajit Doval, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, and the chiefs of the armed forces was presided over by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday.
Pakistan stepped up its artillery firing across the Line of Control in Kashmir Thursday evening, killing one lady and injuring four more civilians.
