Pakistani Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif summoned an emergency meeting of the National Command Authority (NCA), the highest authority in charge of Islamabad’s nuclear weapons, on Saturday as tensions between India and Pakistan continue to rise.

The NCA is the highest decision-making body for nuclear weapons and is made up of both military and civilian authorities.

With Islamabad continuously attempting to attack Indian military installations and civilian populations with drones, missiles, and ceasefire breaches, India and Pakistan are now engaged in a conflict akin to a war.

India has also attacked Pakistan’s air defence systems and airbases in return, seriously damaging them. The terrorists of “The Resistance Front,” a branch of the Pakistan-backed Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), carried out the heinous Pahalgam terror assault, which marked the beginning of it all. The assault in the Baisaran Valley in Pahalgam killed 26 people, including a Nepali national. In retaliation, India launched raids and airstrikes in Pakistan’s Punjab and PoK on Wednesday, targeting terrorist bases under Operation Sindoor. India claimed that the assault killed 100 terrorists.

India said that the precise attacks were aimed at terrorists and did not target civilians or military targets. But since then, Pakistan has used more severe ceasefire breaches, followed by missile and drone assaults. The indiscriminate shelling by Pakistan along the Line of Control and international borders has killed more than a dozen Indian civilians.

India has undertaken many attacks in return, destroying Pakistani air defence systems and air bases. The situation between the two countries is still severe and the escalation has continued.
