Pakistan started a military operation against India early Saturday amid escalating tensions, targeting a number of critical assets, including a missile store facility in northern India. The two nuclear-armed neighbours are engaged in their most serious military conflict in over thirty years.

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio met with Pakistan’s Chief of Army Staff General Asim Munir in an effort to defuse tensions between the two nuclear-armed neighbours. Rubio, in an interview with the US State Department, “encouraged both Pakistan and India to work towards de-escalating the situation.” Rubio made the call just after Pakistan was granted a $1 billion IMF bailout. Rubio also reiterated Washington’s commitment to promoting “constructive dialogue” between the two nations in order to prevent future hostilities.

India is retaliating.
As tensions between the two nations continue to rise, reports said that Indian attacks in the early hours of Saturday targeted at least four Pakistani airbases. After Pakistan struck 26 places in India on Saturday, India quickly began the retaliation strikes.

“Drones have been sighted at 26 locations along the International Border and LoC with Pakistan,” the Ministry of Defence stated in a statement. Among them are alleged weaponised drones.

The places include Lalgarh Jatta, Jaisalmer, Barmer, Bhuj, Kuarbet, Lakhi Nala, Baramulla, Srinagar, Avantipora, Nagrota, Jammu, Ferozpur, Pathankot, Fazilka, and Lakhi Nala. Unfortunately, a local family was injured when an armed drone struck a residential location in Ferozpur.

Security personnel have cleaned the scene and given medical attention to the wounded. Counter-drone technologies are being used to monitor and combat any such airborne threats as part of the Indian Armed Forces’ heightened level of readiness. Prompt action is being taken when appropriate, and the situation is being closely and continuously monitored.

It is recommended that residents stay home, avoid needless movement, and closely adhere to local authorities’ safety directives, particularly in border regions. Although panic is unnecessary, increased care and alertness are crucial.
