With three medals—a gold in the compound men’s team event, a silver in the women’s team event, and a bronze in the mixed team competition—India made a great showing at the Archery World Cup Stage 2 in Shanghai on Saturday.

In the championship match, the men’s team, which included Abhishek Verma, Ojas Deotale, and Rishabh Yadav, beat Mexico 232-228. To win a well-earned gold medal, the Indian team maintained composure and shot steadily from all four ends.

The team consisting of Jyothi Surekha Vennam, Madhura Dhamangaonkar, and Chikitha Taniparthi lost to a formidable Mexican team 221-234 in the women’s compound final, settling for silver. Although it was a one-sided match, the Indian ladies showed potential all through the competition and placed third.

In a low-scoring third-place playoff, the Indian compound mixed team of Verma and Madhura defeated Malaysia to win bronze, adding to their medal total.

These outcomes highlight India’s increasing proficiency and depth in compound archery on the international scene.

India will be aiming for its first-ever Olympic medal in archery, and performances like these hold great promise when compound archery makes its Olympic debut in Los Angeles 2028 with a single event in the mixed team category.
