UN warns of ‘second Nakba’ as Israel faces ethnic cleansing accusations

A United Nations special committee has issued a grave warning, stating the world may be witnessing a new chapter of mass Palestinian displacement reminiscent of the 1948 Nakba. This alert follows Israel’s recent announcement to evict hundreds of thousands of Gazans from the north and confine them to six tightly controlled encampments.

The UN committee, after concluding a fact-finding mission in Amman, accused Israel of carrying out ethnic cleansing under the guise of security. Their report described “unimaginable suffering” being imposed on Palestinians, linking it to Israel’s expansionist objectives.

Citing land grabs, demolitions, and forced removals, the panel claimed Israel’s military operations act as a cover for displacing native populations and implanting Jewish settlers. “This is not just a humanitarian crisis—it is a calculated effort to erase and replace communities,” they wrote.

The committee further documented systemic human rights abuses, alleging that torture, sexual violence, and other degrading acts are routinely used against Palestinians, particularly in detention. These abuses, they said, are “designed to humiliate and terrify.”

In Gaza, the blockade continues to choke life. Aid trucks wait idly just kilometres away, while the population inside starves. The committee called the policy “depraved” and “deliberately punitive.”

Formed in 1968, the UN body investigates Israeli actions in the occupied territories. Their latest findings paint a stark picture of deepening crisis—and echo a haunting past.
