According to The Guardian journalist Ed Aarons, John Textor is planning an ambitious takeover of Crystal Palace. The American businessman is also the owner of Olympique Lyonnais, RWD Molenbeek and Botafogo under his Eagle Football umbrella of clubs.
Textor is an existing shareholder at the Premier League club. The Lyon owner already owns 45% of the East London club and is planning to acquire a further percentage that would see his stake amass to more than 51% and make him the majority shareholder at the club. He has held talks with David Blitzer and Josh Harris about buying their shares in Palace, which constitute about 36% of the club. This would take his stake to more than 80% and could threaten the future of Steve Parrish as chairman.
Whilst Textor has ambitions to become the majority shareholder at Crystal Palace, he is not the only person with such ambitions. The businessman is set to face competition from fellow American Woody Johnson. Johnson is the owner of the New York Jets.
