Cricket News Desk. The speculation of veteran Indian batsman Virat Kohli’s retirement from Test cricket increased the heartbeat of millions of Indian fans on Friday. Like ODI and T20, Virat is also a legendary player in the Test format, where this player has scored more than nine thousand runs in 123 matches. It is being said that Kohli has informed the BCCI about his decision to retire from the Test before the five -match series against England.
Although the former captain has not made any official announcement yet, his departure means that the location of number 4 in Test matches will be vacant. If Virat retires from the Test, this star batsman can be a lucky win for Shreyas Iyer and he can return to the biggest format of cricket. The reason for his return is his recent form, where he has rocked every format.
Shreyas last played a Test match against England in February 2024. He was then removed from the Central Contract List of BCCI. But he did not give up and performed well in red ball cricket tournaments like Dalip Trophy and Ranji Trophy. He played five matches in the last Ranji tournament and scored 480 runs at an average of 68.5, including two centuries.
Shreyas’s test record so far
He then performed brilliantly in limited overs cricket and performed brilliantly in Vijay Hazare Trophy and Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. His biggest feature was that he became the highest run -scorer for India in the Champions Trophy 2025. Iyer made his Test debut in 2021 and since then he has played only 14 Test matches. In all these matches, he has scored 811 runs at an average of 36.86, including a century and five half -centuries.
