Liam Lawson has been warned he could be sacked for a second time this season if his results behind the wheel don't improve. The New Zealander was .

Lawson's appointment as Sergio Perez's replacement wasn't deemed a unanimous one at the time, with suggestions that Yuki Tsunoda - who replaced him two races into the season - should've been given the nod instead. It didn't matter much, as Tsunoda was ushered in for the Japanese Grand Prix, with Lawson having retired and finished 12th in his two outings.

He dropped down to sister constructor Racing Bulls but his form hasn't been much better, with Lawson having failed to finish above 12th in the four races since. As such, there's a fear that Lawson could drop out of the Formula One picture altogether, with talented youngster Arvid Lindblad waiting in the wings.

Ex-Formula One ace Pablo Montoya has warned that could be the case, telling AS: "I'll tell you the truth. If Liam doesn't improve any further, I wouldn't be surprised if they put Lindblad in at some point. Not at all. I wouldn't be a little surprised.

"Honestly, Liam has been given the green light last year and has proven that he has what it takes to do a good job. They gave him the Red Bull seat, and he won it. The Red Bull situation was complicated and I think it took a very strong blow to his liver, and he needs a lot of psychological treatment after that."

He continued: "And if he doesn't recover soon, I'm sure Red Bull will start looking elsewhere because that's how they work. It's Red Bull, it's a bit like what's happening with Alpine right now. Whenever Franco [Colapinto] doesn't do well, the same thing will happen."

Lawson's next chance to impress will come in Italy at the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix next weekend, which is the first of three back-to-back races. The Monaco Grand Prix follows that before the hectic run comes to an end in Barcelona for the Spanish Grand Prix.

At the opposite end of the Drivers' Championship table, it's Oscar Piastri who leads the way. He's won four of the six races so far in 2025 and has only finished outside the podium spots once. McLaren team-mate Lando Norris and reigning champion Max Verstappen trail just behind.
