
After rumours started floating around Virat Kohli retiring from Test cricket, an official from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) confirmed that the star batter had informed the source about his thoughts on retirement.

Reports are coming in about Virat Kohli retiring from Test cricket, that have shocked the Indian cricket without a doubt. Kohli is reported to have told the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) that he wishes to retire from the longest format of the game.
“He has made up his mind and has informed the board that he is moving on from Test cricket. The BCCI has urged him to rethink as the crucial England tour is coming up. He is yet to revert on the request,” sources told this newspaper.
Even though Virat Kohli has shared his willingness to give up on the format, the board has asked him to rethink his decision, as it seems like Kohli’s experience is going to bring a lot of assistance in the team during the upcoming Test series against England.
An official from BCCI spoke about the rumours around Virat Kohli retiring from the longest format of the game. The official revealed that the board has indeed made request to Kohli to take his time before he makes this big of a decision.
“He’s still incredibly fit and hungry. His presence in the dressing room lifts the entire team,” said a senior BCCI official on condition of anonymity, as quoted by NDTV.
“We’ve requested him to take some time before making a final call,” he added.
In case Virat Kohli retires from the red-ball format, KL Rahul and Rishabh Pant are going to be the most senior players in the team. Even though he has had low outcome in the red-ball format in recent time, Shubman Gill is a strong contender who might be given the leadership role for the England Test series
There was once a time when Virat Kohli used to perform magnificently with the bat. Kohli used to be known as the ‘Real King’ in Test format. He played a total of 84 matches and scored 7202 runs during this time. He has played at an average of 54.97 and also scored 27 centuries. Even though Virat Kohli was once the king of the red-ball format, his performance declined since 2020. He played 39 Test matches since 2020, and his average fell down to 30.72. He also only scored three centuries.
Throughout his career, Virat Kohli played 123 Test matches for India, and scored 9230 runs. His average is of 46.83, and his performance has seen a steep fall in the past few years. Kohli has managed to score only 1990 runs in 37 matches that he player in the last 5 years.
