Hira Mani hits back at Kangana Ranaut for anti-Pakistan remarks

Pakistani actress Hira Mani publicly criticized Indian movie star-turned-politician Kangana Ranaut following the latter’s new accusations against Pakistan.

On Instagram, Hira posted a screenshot of Kangana’s comments and gave a straight-talking comeback. She joked that Bollywood star Hrithik Roshan “already sent you flying once,” implying Kangana’s record on controversy had kept her out of favor in India and hated in Pakistan. Hira went on to say that Kangana should not spare the drama because “our army has already given a befitting reply.”

The Twitter-warfare occurs against the backdrop of fresh military tensions between the two neighbors. In the dead of night between 6–7 May, Indian troops conducted nighttime raids on civilian targets in Azad Kashmir, Kotli, Muzaffarabad, Bagh, and Muridke and Ahmadpur Sharqia towns. Two mosques were destroyed, and at least 31 Pakistanis were killed—two of them children—and 51 others were injured.

Pakistan’s counter-offensive

Islamabad responded with Operation Bunyan Marsoos (Iron Wall) at dawn on 10 May, striking India’s Udhampur and Pathankot airbases, a BrahMos missile depot, and the G-Top brigade command center. Pakistani cyber warriors also disabled about 70 percent of India’s power-distribution network and vandalized several of the key Indian websites. Pakistan also reportedly brought down three Rafale fighter jets, one MiG-29, an Su-30, and an attack drone engaged in the previous sorties.

Public reaction

Hira Mani’s forthright response has resonated with Pakistani social-media users, many of whom applauded her for “speaking the nation’s mind” and standing by the armed forces.
