
Ramesh Wadhwani was born in 1947 just 10 days after India’s independence. His family faced the hardships of Partition so his family moved to India after the Partition. He contracted polio at the age of two which brought mobility challenges to him. He was studious and got admission in the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT). In 1969 Ramesh moved to the United States for further studies. He did Master’s and Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh. After completing Ph.D. he founded an industrial automation company. Later he also established Aspect Development software company. In 1999 it sold for $9.3 billion. Ramesh Wadhwani heads Symphony Technology Group which has a total 18 technology and analytics companies. It works on software data and artificial intelligence and earns $2.8 billion in annual revenue. His brother Sunil Wadhwani also started the Wadhwani Institute for Artificial Intelligence in Mumbai India’s first AI-focused institute with a Rs 200 crore investment. Ramesh Wadhwani also supports startups and educational initiatives. Through the Wadhwani Foundation he also helps philanthropic efforts and focuses on job creation. His net worth is $5 billion (around Rs 42500 crores).
