Government clarifies former PM is safe in jail; PTI raises concerns over security and health

PTI Seeks Court Intervention for Imran Khan’s Release

Islamabad, May 11 – In the wake of widespread social media rumors claiming the death of former Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan in prison, his political party, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), has filed a plea in the Islamabad High Court demanding his immediate release on security and medical grounds.

The plea was submitted by PTI leader Ali Amin Gandapur, who asserted that Khan’s life is in danger due to the current cross-border tensions between India and Pakistan. The party raised alarms over the possibility of a drone strike on Adiala Jail, where Imran Khan is currently incarcerated. It further highlighted concerns over his deteriorating health and claimed that prison conditions may be life-threatening.

Government Dismisses Death Rumors, Assures Imran’s Safety

The Pakistan government has officially responded to the circulating rumors of Imran Khan’s alleged assassination in custody, confirming that he is safe and secure in Adiala Jail. Authorities have also debunked a fake video and a fabricated government press release that had gone viral on Saturday, sparking nationwide confusion.

Officials urged citizens not to believe unverified social media content and reiterated that Khan is receiving due protection in prison. The government’s swift response was aimed at quelling unrest and disinformation during a time of regional tension.

No Immediate Court Hearing Scheduled

While PTI’s petition emphasizes the urgency of the situation, the Islamabad High Court has yet to schedule a hearing. The party argues that the prevailing geopolitical situation, combined with internal security threats, poses an imminent risk to the former Prime Minister’s life.

Imran Khan has been held in custody at Rawalpindi’s Adiala Jail since his conviction on various charges. His legal team has consistently argued that his imprisonment is politically motivated and that his safety cannot be guaranteed under current circumstances.
