In a fresh escalation of cross-border tension, Pakistani drone activity was detected in the skies over Barmer, Rajasthan on Saturday evening. The Barmer District Administration issued an urgent public alert urging residents to immediately observe a blackout and stay indoors.
According to officials, incoming drone movements were spotted near sensitive areasprompting authorities to implement precautionary protocols. The District Magistrate confirmed the incident and reiterated that safety measures were in place.
Travel restrictions announced earlier
Earlier in the day, amid rising military alerts across border regions, the Barmer District Collector’s Office had also issued a travel advisory suspending all travel to Barmer city due to a red alert. The official Hindi advisory translated to:
This comes in the backdrop of continued ceasefire violations by Pakistan along the LoC and International Border, despite both nations agreeing to a ceasefire on May 10.
What to do during a blackout
Residents have been urged to:
- Turn off all lights, including outdoor and vehicle lights.
- Stay away from open windows and rooftops.
- Avoid using mobile flashlights outside.
- Follow updates only from official government sources.
- Avoid spreading unverified news or videos.
The district administration has assured that security forces are fully prepared and air defence units are on high alert to intercept any aerial threats.
