once stopped traffic to hit golf balls across one of the world's longest bridges, making history in the process. The legendary American has no shortage of records under his belt, including the most consecutive weeks as the world's top-ranked player. He also holds the record for the longest consecutive cuts streak on the with a staggering 142.

The vast majority of the 49-year-old's records were set on the golf course, but one impressive feat was achieved in a very different location. Over a decade ago, Woods became the first player to hit a golf ball between two different continents. He remains the only person to have ever done so, which is hardly surprising given the ridiculousness of such an accomplishment.

Ahead of the inaugural Turkish Airlines Open in 2013, Woods took to the Bosphorus Bridge to land himself a piece of sporting history. The bridge spans 1,560 metres in length, putting it inside the top 50 longest suspension bridges in the world.

Woods pulled out a driver and began to hit balls down the length of the bridge, which connects Asia to Europe. The promotional event involved organisers gaining special permission to close three lanes as traffic continued to flow in the opposite direction.

After stepping off his makeshift tee box, Woods said: "I've hit balls down runways before but never down a bridge. The scary part was, I just flew in from a 12-hour journey, hopped off a plane and had to hit driver down the narrowest fairway I've ever seen.

"The wind was coming off the left a little bit and all these cars were driving on the right, so if I lose any balls to the right, there's an international incident right there, so that was a little nerve-wracking.

"Trust me, every ball drew. It was pretty cool. I think somebody was telling me I hit one 550 metres [601 yards] or something like that, so not bad."

Woods has taken part in many promotional events over the course of his long and storied career. Back in 2000, he thrilled fans at Hyde Park with a display of his skill in an exhibition organised by American Express.

Members of the public were not allowed to attend without tickets, which were quickly snapped up by eager fans. The event was hosted by Gary Lineker, who also had the opportunity to win a million pounds for charity by attempting to shoot a hole-in-one.
