In a noteworthy development, the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) has introduced cafes, restrooms, and other tourist facilities in Hampi circle, marking a departure from its previous absence of amenities. This decision, aimed at enhancing the tourist experience, signifies a shift in the government's approach to preserve the sacred ruins of the Vijayanagara Empire while providing essential services. Plans are underway to expand these offerings to include a complete restaurant and lodging facilities in the near future.


 

Presently, the ASI team operates a small store offering tea, coffee, coconut, and light snacks. Soon, they intend to provide temporary lodging with clean beds, hygienic toilets, and other essential services. The ASI buildings will be constructed in the distinctive Hampi architectural style, immersing tourists in the rich history of the region. Additionally, restaurants are set to be established, focusing on serving hygienic and freshly prepared food.

According to a senior ASI official, two cafes have been inaugurated in Hampi, with plans for additional outlets across the historical city. Prices for tea or coffee range from INR 10 to INR 20. The snack options include puffs and samosas, while visitors can also purchase cold drinks and water bottles to combat the dry heat prevalent in Hampi, known for its extensive presence of granite boulders.

Hampi, located in Karnataka and recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is a captivating village steeped in history, showcasing the ruins of the Vijayanagara Empire.
