Commencing from January 1, there are noteworthy changes in Finland's Schengen Visa rules, specifically affecting Indian travellers seeking short-stay visits. The Ministry for Foreign Affairs in Finland has instituted modifications, requiring individuals to furnish additional financial details when applying for a Schengen visa. The revised regulations stipulate that travellers must now demonstrate possession of a minimum of €50 for each day they intend to spend in Finland. This reflects a substantial increase of €20 (equivalent to a 66% rise) from the previous financial requirement. The rationale behind this adjustment is reportedly linked to the escalating living costs in the country.


 

The Schengen visa holds paramount importance as it acts as an entry permit for individuals planning short-term or temporary visits, facilitating travel within the Schengen area. This region encompasses numerous European countries, including 23 out of the 27 EU member nations, along with neighbouring countries such as Norway, Switzerland, Iceland, and Liechtenstein.

In conjunction with the augmented financial prerequisite, Finland has introduced a novel proof of sponsorship or accommodation scheme. Hosts in Finland are now mandated to complete a sponsorship form, which must be submitted along with the rest of the visa application. This additional measure is designed to enhance the transparency and accountability of financial arrangements for those seeking short-term stays in Finland.

Moreover, it is imperative to note that the Schengen area is poised to expand in March, granting visa holders the ability to visit two additional countries during their European sojourn - Bulgaria and Romania. This development significantly broadens the scope of travel possibilities for individuals holding Schengen visas.

In terms of the financial aspect, the Schengen visa fee for Indian nationals remains set at €80. It's noteworthy that there is a complete waiver of the Schengen visa fee for children under the age of six. For children aged between six and 12 years, a reduced visa fee of €40 applies, catering to families travelling with younger members. These fee structures are integral to the comprehensive framework governing the issuance of Schengen visas for various age groups.
