
New Delhi: Haram was always a matter of discussion during the Mughal era. The country or foreigners were interested in knowing and understanding it that many foreign travelers who reached India revealed many secrets of harem in their memoirs. Italian passenger Manuchi was one of the few people who got a chance to travel to Haram. He wrote openly about the situation of women in Haram. The word harem is derived from Arabic language which means holy or forbidden. Haram started during the period of Babur, Babur laid the foundation of the Mughal Empire in India. Babur ruled only up to 4 Vasal. Therefore, Haram could not be prepared in the way it has been described in history. Babur’s grandson Akbar did the task of keeping the harem organized and increasing the scope.
Which women used to get a place in the harem?
There were many groups in women’s harem. In which many maids were kept to take care of all the women of the family, the mistress of the emperor. It included women taking care of harem. Women were brought there in many ways to enhance the beauty of Haram. For example, if the Mughal emperor fell in love with a woman, he was made part of the harem. Some women were brought captive from other countries and some were bought from the market. At the same time, some women used to be such that the emperor used to get gifts from other kings. However, which woman would reach the bed of the emperor depending on many things. For this, it was mandatory for the woman to be beautiful and compulsory in dance.
How was Haram’s life
The woman who reached the harem once. His relationship with the outside world was over. There was a ban on going out of the woman. Apart from this, he could not have a relationship with any outside person. Women had to strictly follow these rules. The emperor had a few select knees who used to spend time only with him. Once, after becoming a favorite of the female emperor, he used to get special rights. Duty of maidens was imposed to serve them. Due to which their status in harem used to increase.
