Suspense crime, Digital Desk : Mohammad Salahuddin, the senior assistant coach of Bangladesh, has extended full backing to Litton Das, who has been appointed the new captain of the T20I side until the next T20 World Cup. This appointment is a surprise given Litton’s lack of form in the format for the past year.

Litton takes over from Najmul Hossain Shanto and has, over his last 16 T20 internationals, managed a meager 242 runs with a single fifty to his name. Also, his performances in the T20I series against the West Indies were lackluster – 0, 3, and 14. Despite his individual shortcomings, he was able to guide the team to a series win.

He was also omitted from the Champions Trophy squad and faced major criticism in the last World Cup for multiple on and off field incidents. Salahuddin, however, has publically said that set parameters should not dictate the bounds of leadership.

While speaking to the media at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium, Salahuddin went on record saying that Bangladeshi players hardly get the break they need, which greatly impacts their performance and well being. Also encouraged supporters and detractors alike to give Litton time to adjust.

Salahuddin drew attention to Litton’s possible growth into the role because of his strategic thinking and leadership qualities. He stated that Litton should be allowed to lead in the exact style he prefers, while blaming the expectation of new captains delivering results immediately as a problematic perspective.

The coach also addressed the belief that Litton is too quiet for a leadership position. Using Shakib Al Hasan as a comparison, Salahuddin remarked that being shy does not equal lacking leadership skills. He further stated that it is not only Litton, but also every individual who can improve themselves—be it in cricket or in life.

In closing, Salahuddin praised Liton’s ability to dominate international cricket, noting the dual nature of Bangladeshi cricket wherein one shoulders adulation and condemnation, while urging people to support Litton in his difficult transition to captaincy.
