Suspense crime, Digital Desk : India triumphed over Sri Lanka with a dominating 97-run victory in the women’s tri-series final which was played in Colombo on May 11, 2025. Smriti Mandhana’s remarkable 116 and synergetic partnerships enabled India to reach 342/7, while Sneh Rana capped it off with a 4 wicket haul to restrict Sri Lanka to 245.

Mandhana’s Century Lays Strong Foundation

Indian innings were kicked off with a 70 run opening stand with Pratika Rawal and Mandhana. Eventhough Inoka Ranaweera ended the partnership in the 15th over, Mandhana’s innings blossomed from that point onwards. The Sri Lankan spinners suffered at her hands during the middle overs and she capitalized with 15 fours and two sixes. Dominating boundaries off Chamari Athapaththu brought over 11th ODI century.

Mandhana built a 120 run partnership with Harleen Deol who chipped in with 47. Paddind from Harmanpreet Kaur, Jemimah Rodrigues, Amanjot Kaur, and Deepti Sharma propelled Indian total to a monstrous score.

Sri Lanka Fights Back But Still Loses

Things began going downhill for Sri Lanka when an opening wicket was taken by Amanjot Kaur when she trapped Hasini Perera for a duck. Vishmi Gunaratne and Athapaththu started to stitch a partnership, but both were out before they could kickstart an acceleration. Nilakshi de Silva’s lower order resistance of 48 along with Athapaththu’s 51 gave some balance, but with an increasing rate of required runs, their late fall to Rana extinguished all hope.

Along with some support from Harshitha Samarawickrama and Anushka Sanjeewani, the home side couldn’t get remotely close. The match was rounded off with a couple of run-outs, alongside Malki Madara getting bowled by Rana.

Short Scores:

India 342/7 in 50 Overs (Smriti Mandhana 116, Harleen Dol 47; Sugandika Kumari 2-59)
Sri Lanka 245 in 48.2 Overs (Chamari Athapaththu 51, Nilakshi de Silva 48; Sneh Rana 4-32)

Outcome: India won by 97 runs
