Trump's Announcement on Ceasefire

On Monday, US President Donald Trump announced that his administration played a crucial role in facilitating an immediate ceasefire between India and Pakistan, both of which are nuclear-armed nations. He emphasized that his intervention helped avert a potential nuclear conflict, which he described as a dangerous situation.

Trump stated, "On May 10, my administration brokered an immediate ceasefire, which I believe could lead to a permanent resolution between India and Pakistan, two countries with significant nuclear arsenals."

Praise for Leadership and Trade Negotiations

He expressed pride in the strong leadership shown by both Indian and Pakistani officials, noting their wisdom and strength in recognizing the seriousness of the situation. Trump also mentioned the importance of trade, stating, "If you stop the conflict, we will engage in trade. If not, trade will cease. I utilized trade negotiations in a way that has not been done before, and they agreed to halt hostilities."

Concerns Over Nuclear Conflict

Trump remarked, "We averted a nuclear conflict that could have resulted in millions of casualties. I extend my gratitude to Vice President JD Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio for their contributions in this matter."

Future Trade Prospects

He added, "We are set to engage in substantial trade with both Pakistan and India. Currently, we are in negotiations with India and will soon begin discussions with Pakistan."

Details of the Ceasefire Agreement

The agreement to halt hostilities was reportedly reached after a conversation between the Director General of Military Operations (DGMO) of Pakistan and his Indian counterpart, Lieutenant General Rajiv Ghai. During this dialogue, the Pakistani DGMO suggested an end to the conflict, which was accepted by India, leading to a cessation of cross-border firing and air intrusions starting at 5:00 PM on May 10.

However, Lieutenant General Ghai later indicated that the ceasefire was short-lived, as Pakistan resumed cross-border firing and drone incursions just hours after the agreement took effect.
