Islamabad: In a case involving the October 4, 2024, demonstration, the prosecution of Islamabad police has named the senior leadership of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI). According to Dawn, the prosecution filed a challan in another case filed at Koral Police Station on October 4 and named prominent PTI leaders as accused, including Barrister Gohar Ali Khan, Ali Amin Gandapur, Barrister Saif, and Omar Ayub, as Judicial Magistrate Shaista Kundi resumed the case’s proceedings.

29 PTI employees showed up for the hearing, while four more filed petitions asking to be excused from participation. The hearing was postponed by the court until July 17, when the accused are anticipated to receive a formal indictment.
Following the disqualification of former Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan due to his conviction for hiding Toshakhana presents from his stated assets, accused Raja Majid was charged by Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) Judge Tahir Abbas Sipra in a separate case involving demonstrations in Faizabad. Majid refuted the accusations against him throughout the session.
Faisal Javed Khan and Wasiq Qayyum filed motions to be excused from appearing in court, while co-accused Amir Mahmood Kayani made an appearance. Several of the co-accused have previously been indicted by the court in previous trials.
PTI leaders Faisal Javed Khan, Wasiq Qayyum, and Amir Kayani were also listed in the complaint filed at the I-9 police station. According to Dawn, the court called the prosecution’s witnesses and postponed the hearing to May 19.
Relatedly, Khan’s absence has caused hearings in other protest-related charges filed at the Golra Police Station and the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) to be postponed. Imran Khan has the same legal standing as other parties in these matters, according to Judge Shipra, who also emphasized that the procedures cannot advance until he shows up in court. These cases’ procedures have been postponed until May 16.
According to The News International, the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) celebrated its 29th anniversary of founding and called for the release of its founder, Imran Khan, as well as other party officials and employees. The party promised to keep fighting for the rule of law and the supremacy of the Constitution.
At a ceremony celebrating the party’s founding day at the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa House, the PTI officials overwhelmingly approved a resolution. Ali Amin Gandapur, the chief minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, was among the PTI leaders who attended the event. The resolution demanded that all political detainees, including PTI Vice Chairman Shah Mehmood Qureshi, be released and denounced Imran Khan’s “illegal” incarceration.
“The country answered the call of its leader Imran Khan and won the PTI with a huge majority in the February 8, 2024 elections,” said the PTI resolution. Sadly, the mandate of the party was pilfered. This is an assault on the Constitution and a plunder of the people’s rights. We vehemently call for the reinstatement of our valid mandate.
According to The News International, the party created by Imran Khan denounced the continued tyranny and fascism in Pakistan in the resolution. It called for the restoration of fundamental human rights and freedoms (personal, political, and journalistic) that have been suspended in Pakistan.
