In a groundbreaking move set to redefine the landscape of Indian tourism, the Gujarat state government is gearing up to launch the country's inaugural submarine tourism venture. This pioneering initiative, borne out of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Gujarat Government and Mazgaon Dockyard Limited (MDL), is poised to immerse tourists in the enchanting world beneath the waves off the coast of Dwarka—a city steeped in the lore of Lord Krishna.
The collaboration between the Gujarat government and Mazagon Dock Limited (MDL) marks a significant milestone, heralding the nation's first foray into submarine tourism. The focus of this avant-garde project is the exploration of the marine wonders surrounding Bet Dwarka, a picturesque island nestled off the coast of Dwarka, intimately linked with the mythology of Lord Krishna.
Drawing parallels to the iconic Titanic submersible expedition, albeit sans the peril, this unique venture is set to become operational before Diwali 2024, adding a touch of allure to India's tourism landscape. Tourists will be granted an unprecedented opportunity to descend approximately 100 meters below the sea surface in a specially designed submarine, offering an immersive encounter with the vibrant marine life surrounding the island—a locale believed to harbor a submerged city attributed to Lord Krishna's creation.
The planned submarine, weighing in at approximately 35 tonnes, is envisioned to accommodate up to 30 passengers at a time. With awe-inspiring panoramic views promised at the 100-meter depth, the vessel is configured with two rows, providing window views for 24 passengers. Manned by two experienced pilots and a professional crew, the seating arrangement ensures that every passenger enjoys the optimal underwater experience.
Anticipation is rife that this trailblazing project will not only elevate the tourism quotient but also spur employment opportunities and attract investments to the region. An official announcement regarding this innovative endeavor is expected at the upcoming Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit.
According to Saurabh Pardhi, the Managing Director of Gujarat Tourism, this unique project is poised to provide a substantial boost to tourism in Dwarka. Dwarka, renowned for its religious significance and the revered Dwarkadhish Temple, stands on the brink of transformation, as this submarine tourism initiative promises to add an exhilarating dimension to the city's cultural and spiritual allure. The project, transcending the boundaries of conventional tourism, is a testament to Gujarat's commitment to pushing the boundaries and embracing the unexplored depths of travel possibilities.
