A viral post on social media claims that 52 Indian soldiers were martyred, while a video was shared claiming that a Pakistani missile caused chaos in an Indian city. What is the truth behind these posts?

 

 

 

A ceasefire has been declared between India and Pakistan, but in the meantime, many posts and videos related to this conflict are going viral on social media. Different claims are being made by sharing them. In one post, it is said that '52 Indian soldiers were martyred', while in another video, it is claimed that a Pakistani missile has caused chaos in an Indian city. What is the truth behind these posts?

Claim No.1:  

Claim made regarding Indian Army.

A video is going viral in which some people are seen lying on the ground. Flames are visible all around them. It is being shared saying that 52 soldiers of the 20 Raj Battalion of the Indian Army were martyred in the attack by Pakistan.  

A user named Dr. Shakeel Ahmed Khan  the viral post and wrote,

 

“The Indian Army has been severely punished on the Line of Control. India is hiding the loss of its 52 soldiers. The families of those soldiers are increasing pressure on the government.”

This claim is misleading. There is no unit like 20 Raj Battalion in the Indian Army. The Press Information Bureau under the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting of India has also described the video as scripted.

 

 

Claim No.2

By sharing the picture of a woman, it is being said that 27-year-old female army officer Kiran Shekhawat was martyred during Operation Sindoor.

A user named Amrit  Kiran Shekhawat's post and wrote,

“The country's first on-duty martyred woman officer Kiran Shekhawat attained martyrdom at the age of 27, we all salute her martyrdom. The martyrdom of India's daughter will not go in vain.”

 

 

Investigation:

This claim is misleading. On reverse searching the viral picture, we found a 2-year-old post on a page named 'Indian Navy Lover'. The viral picture is present in it. According to the post, Lieutenant Kiran Shekhawat died in a plane crash in Goa 10 years ago. This is also confirmed by many media reports published 10 years ago. 

 

 

Claim No.-3

Suddenly there is an explosion in a building. Flames start coming out of it. There is chaos all around. People are seen on the road. It is being claimed that Pakistan's missile hit India's defense system accurately. That means this explosion happened in India due to Pakistani missile.

A user named Sadaf  the viral post and wrote,

 

“India's Iron Dome defence system has completely failed to intercept Pakistani missiles, all Pakistani missiles are successfully hitting their targets.”

On reverse searching a key frame of the video, we found a post by a user named 'হৃদয়ে জামালপুর জেলা'. Parts of the viral video can be seen in this post. This post is from March 2025. According to the post,  is from Khilgaon in Bangladesh where there was chaos due to a cylinder explosion. That is, a misleading claim has been shared by sharing a three-month-old video.
