The Uttar Pradesh government has introduced a new plan to increase Kharif crop output in an effort to increase farmers’ income. The government has set the lofty goal of increasing food grain and oilseed output by 12%. To encourage water conservation, the project also entails building little ponds in 8,500 fields. Divisional commissioners and district judges have been given explicit instructions on how to carry out this project.
The state produced 260 lakh metric tons of oilseed and food grain crops during Kharif 2024. This number should rise to 293 lakh metric tons, according to the government. The expansion of the area under paddy cultivation and increasing the output of maize production will get particular attention.
The government has modified agricultural planting, maintenance, and irrigation techniques as part of the updated plan. It is the responsibility of district judges and divisional commissioners to guarantee that farmers have access to timely fertilizer, high-quality seeds, and sufficient irrigation. To assist farmers in implementing improved practices, agricultural authorities would also provide them technical training.
The Khet Talab Yojana will be implemented across the state with the goal of solving water scarcity and offering substitute irrigation supplies. The National Agricultural Development Scheme will build 8,499 small farm ponds in 2025–2026. Especially in regions with erratic rainfall, these farm ponds, which act as tiny reservoirs to hold rainwater, will assist fish farming and cattle watering in addition to irrigation.
Through online registration, farmers will be able to take advantage of better agricultural productivity and irrigation infrastructure.
