In a major move to speed up food and drug sample testing, Uttar Pradesh will start testing at three new divisional food and drug labs in June. The state’s yearly sample testing capacity will rise by 18,000 thanks to the new labs in Ayodhya, Aligarh, and Saharanpur, reaching 54,000 samples annually.
Approximately 36,000 samples are tested annually by the state’s six Food Safety and Drug Administration (FSDA) facilities, which are located in Lucknow, Varanasi, Jhansi, Agra, Meerut, and Gorakhpur.
“With the addition of these new laboratories in June, the remaining nine divisional laboratories under construction are also expected to begin operations soon, with all divisional laboratories set to start testing by December,” confirmed Rajesh Kumar, Commissioner of the Food and Drug Administration Department.
For these facilities, an additional 1,200 lab workers will be hired. Exams for the selection of junior analysts in food and medicine have already been administered by the Subordinate Service Selection Commission, and the results are anticipated shortly. The Public Service Commission has also received a request to fill 540 posts for Food Safety Officers.
