The Indian government's cybersecurity agency, CERT-In (Indian Computer Emergency Response Team), has issued a serious cybersecurity warning for iPhone and iPad users. The warning states that several high-risk vulnerabilities have been found in Apple's mobile operating systems, iOS and iPadOS, through which cyber attackers can access sensitive data or completely disable the device.

Which devices are at risk?

According to CERT-In, iPhones running on versions older than iOS 18.3 and iPads based on iPadOS 17.7.3 or older than iOS 18.3 are vulnerable to this threat. The devices affected include...

iPhone XS and newer models

iPad Pro (2nd generation and newer)

iPad (6th generation and newer)

iPad Air (3rd generation and above)

iPad mini (5th generation and above)

How serious is the threat?

By exploiting these vulnerabilities, cybercriminals can steal your personal and financial data, bypass Apple's built-in security, run malicious code on your device and, in the most serious case, even crash the device. CERT-In has also confirmed that some of the vulnerabilities are being actively abused in cyber attacks.

What should users do?

Apple has released new security updates to deal with these threats. CERT-In and Apple have advised users to immediately update their devices to the latest iOS or iPadOS version. Avoid downloading apps from any unknown source. Keep an eye on any unusual activity in the device which may be a sign of a cyber attack.
