The development follows a major breakthrough by the Punjab Policewho arrested an Indian national allegedly linked to the Pakistani diplomat. The individual is accused of transmitting classified defence- informationcompromising national security. Preliminary investigations suggest that the arrested individual was part of a broader intelligence-gathering network operating within Indian territory.

Law enforcement officials stated that the arrest helped expose a larger conspiracyand further investigations are underway to determine the extent of the information leak and other individuals involved.

This expulsion comes at a time when India-Pakistan relations remain fragile, particularly concerning cross-border security, terrorism, and intelligence operations. The MEA emphasized that any misuse of diplomatic privileges for activities that threaten India’s security and sovereignty will be dealt with firmly and swiftly.

Declaring a foreign diplomat persona non grata is a rare and serious measure under the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relationsoften reserved for cases involving espionage or acts hostile to the host nation.

Indian authorities continue to maintain heightened vigilance around diplomatic missions, especially amid concerns of foreign intelligence operations targeting critical defence infrastructure.
