Kapadia Payal With a subtle but impactful stylistic statement, Indian director Payal Kapadia is returning to the 78th edition of the Cannes Film Festival as a jury member. She walked the red carpet at the opening ceremony wearing a precisely fitted deconstructed plaid suit by Rishta designer Arjun Saluja, which gave her a businesswoman vibe instead of the typical glamor.
Her outfit embodied the idea of intelligence and purpose coming together. Indrakshi Pattanaik, her longtime friend and a costume designer and fashion stylist, fashioned Payal Kapadia. Last year, Payal Kapadia received praise for her picture “All We Imagine As Light.”
Deciphering Payal Kapadia’s Disassembled Suit
Payal Kapadia’s style has a slight modern edge while drawing inspiration from 1980s power dressing. According to Indrakshi, Payal has always enjoyed the organized, astute, and presence-filled fashion of the 1980s. The deconstructed plaid outfit was created by her and Arjun Saluja with consideration for the filmmaker’s expressive, grounded, and sophisticated personality.
The suit’s subdued gray hues strike a mix between relaxation and command. Comfort and personality were guaranteed by the loose shape, asymmetrical tailoring, and clean lines. Kapadia’s preference to observe the film without being distracted by ostentatious design was reflected in this attire. Additionally, the ensemble complied with this year’s Cannes dress code, which forbade nudity and bulky attire.
Payal Kapadia’s Deconstructed Plaid Suit Accessories
Kapadia accessorized her genuine plaid suit with striking Tribe by Amrapali silver jewelry. An oxidized choker with ghungroo details gave the ensemble a significant amount of richness, and her stacked pendant necklace was inspired by West African Akan customs. Like Kapadia herself, the accessories conveyed a sense of groundedness and worldliness.
