Goa’s Panaji [India] At the Duler Stadium, Indian Arrows Women Juniors lost to Garhwal United FC 0–2 in their Indian Women’s League 2 Final Round match.
Sanfida Nongrum (56′, 68′) scored twice to give Garhwal United the three points on Tuesday, according to the AIFF’s official website.
Despite being equally fought, Garhwal United created more chances in the first half, but Arrows goalie Munni’s few outstanding saves kept things as they were.
In the 18th minute, Sanfida, the captain of Garhwal, attempted a devastating long-range effort that a diving Munni palmed out of play.
Goalie Ribansi Jamu hurried out to use her feet to swat the ball away after Arrows captain Julan Nongmaithem sent Anita Dungdung through into the Garhwal box.
Under the Arrows goal, Munni was kept busy by the Garhwal strikers. She grabbed the ball from Lhingdeikim’s foot and then made another save, this time from a Fragrancy Riwan effort. When Deepika Pal fired from outside the box in the 35th minute, Garhwal had the best chance to score, but Munni was too far away to make the save. But when the ball ricocheted out of play, the upright saved her.
With the same goal in mind, Garhwal United took the lead early in the second half. Sanfida scored the game’s first goal in the 56th minute after firing a long-range shot.
She broke away down the left, checked inside, and fired a curling attempt into the top corner in the 68th minute, increasing the advantage for her team.
The Arrows played with great intensity in the final minutes and almost equalized in the 86th minute. Valaina Jada Fernandes’ close-range attempt was stopped as the Arrows rushed forward, pegging the Garhwal defense into their own six-yard-box. Anushka Kumari dribbled her marker and then let the rebound fly, but the wall of Garhwal defenders halted her attempt before it was cleared out of play.
