BBC Breakfast presenter Sally Nugent sparked concern amongst her co-stars as she was missing at the start of Wednesday's show. On Wednesday (May 14), presenter Jon Kay, who usually hosts alongside Sally, was forced to host the first 15 minutes of the programme independently as Sally was nowhere to be seen.

Before handing the reins over to meteorologist Carol Kirkwood, who was on hand to present the first weather update of the day, Jon told viewers that he could hear "footsteps" of Sally arriving in the studio, and so she'll be able to explain all.

Following Carol's report, Sally emerged and apologised to viewers for being "late". She said, "Hi, I made it, everyone. Morning Carol! It's so nice to be here. Sorry, I'm a little bit late!"

Concerned for his co-star, Jon turned to Sally and said: "A little bit of drama, are you alright?"

Sally replied: "Oh, Jon, yeah, I'm ok, thank you. I got stuck in a car. You know where our studios are, it's by the Quays, there's lots of water and bridges, I got stuck because a bridge came up to let two boats through and the bridge couldn't close again."

She continued: "So there have been lots of people trying to close the bridge. People in high-vis jackets pointing at it, staring at it. So that took about 40 minutes."

Jon then said, "You were the best part of an hour. Sally was texting me like 'I can't get out, I can't leave the car!'"

As she spoke openly about her panicked morning ordeal, Sally revealed that her colleague John Watson was able to meet her on the bridge and escort her to the offices safely.

Sally's brief absence was picked up by viewers at home, as one cheekily quipped on X: "Has Sally Nugent slept in or has she just had enough of working with Jon Kay?"

Another also said: "Was wondering why Jon was on his own at the start of the programme."

In addition to sharing her story with viewers, Sally also posted about her nightmare morning on sharing an image of the closed bridge and captioning the picture, "stuck."

BBC Breakfast airs Mondays-Sundays from 6am on BBC One.
