Suspense crime, Digital Desk : The bold remarks from Namashi Chakraborty, son of veteran actor Mithun Chakraborty, have stirred the waters of discussion ever since his statements addressing the nepotism and bias in Bollywood surfaced. During an interview for Who’s On Air with Kamlksh Shetty, Namashi spoke on the lack of support for outsiders, as well as the growing favoritism over genuine talent.Fakery Devoid of TalentNamashi without reservations expressed his strong views, “Bollywood people are very fake; my father is a great exception.” Explaining his perspective, he praised Mithun Chakraborty’s grounded nature and described him as “humble, honest, and down-to-earth,” someone who never allowed fame to dictate how he chose to live his life.Mithun Chakraborty’s Unsung TaleDuring the time period in the mid-90s when Mithun’s popularity as a leading star started to dip was also recalled by Namashi. At that point, Mithun was acting in about 100 low budget action films being shot in Ooty, and fell under the moniker of being a “B-grade actor.” “He constructed his own industry, but the media never supported that; they’ve got their favorites. He stood tirelessly while mainstream media completely ignored his efforts,” he added.Bollywood’s Blind Spot of ForeignersPointing to the insider-outsider dichotomy, Namashi stressed that capture alien opportunities are mostly available to those with deep-rooted connections and powerful links. “We don’t look for talent; we look for surnames,” said as he comments on the current trends in film selection. As per Namashi’s comments, he stated earlier in his speech that the industry used to appreciate talent, but now it bases its decisions on heritage, and names and connections. He even raised the question of whether a Mithun ‘star’ who came from Bengal without any links would be accepted by the gatekeepers in today’s era.
