Tennis legend Serena Williams has lost oodles of weight post becoming a mom. As someone who maintained a strict fitness regimen as a tennis player, Williams has often said her activity levels haven't slowed down as a mom and perhaps even increased. Being away from the court, and balancing her mommy duties with professional work, fitness has become a passion and a way of life for Williams. She keeps working out a mix of hard work and fun. So, cardio, bike riding, dancing, all feature in her everyday routine and a carefully crafted diet adds to her weight loss efforts.

Serena Williams's jaw-dropping look impresses fans

Her recent Instagram video has left her social media community in awe. The clip shows her seamlessly transitioning from cozy-chic loungewear into a jaw-dropping, red carpet–ready ensemble. Draped in a metallic silver two-piece with a luxe, liquid-satin finish, Serena flaunted her sculpted midriff with elan. The blonde hair cascading in voluminous, runway-worthy curls completed her look.

Aging in reverse

Williams is a mother of two but seems to be aging in reverse. With husband Alexis Ohanian, she has two daughters. While they welcomed their first daughter Alexis Olympia Ohanian Jr in September 2017, their younger daughter - Adira River Ohanian - was born five years later in August 2023.

The tennis star remains committed to her fitness and wellness routine and her tips are worth emulating.

Here's what Williams does every day for staying in shape:

HIIT workoutsThey are great energy boosters, mood uplifters and can be done in a short amount of time. Short bursts of intense activity can aid in weight loss, improving heart health and reducing risk of chronic illnesses.
This can also help in burning fat.

“I do HIIT workouts ( high-intensity interval training ), a little stretching, a little strength training, but mostly cardio training,” Serena Williams told Vogue in 2022.

Cycling
Serena Williams is also quite fond of cycling and has often been spotted riding bikes. In one instance, she even beat traffic by riding a bicycle to her match in Miami.

“Those Peloton people are so inspirational!” she told Self in 2021. “They’ll be like ‘If you can get through this, you can get through your day, so you gotta do it!’ I’m like ‘I got you! I’m here!’”

CardioWilliams swears by her cardio exercises and tries to do them every day. “My favorite type of cardio is running, but my body has to be fit to be able to run or else my knees will hurt. After playing tennis for so many years, you just wear and tear down your knees, so the elliptical has been growing on me, too,” she told Vogue.

Long-distance walks are another preferred way Williams keeps fit.

What she eats in a day
Not a breakfast person

Serena Williams is not a breakfast person and often doesn't feel hungry when she rolls out of breakfast. After doing her workouts on an empty stomach, the tennis star listens to her body cues before having the first meal of her day.

Lots of greens

A fan of a plant-based diet , the former tennis sensation prefers to include lots of greens, beans, and other plant-based foods including fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and legumes in her meals. One would often see her eating plant-based protein sources like bean burgers and bean burritos.

Glucose monitoring

Serena says she's obsessed with eating healthy and living healthy post quitting tennis and continuous glucose monitor (CGM) from Abbott helps her track her blood sugar levels. CGMs are those little sensors placed under the skin of your arm that send data to your smartphone and offer insights on your blood sugar levels. Once you understand your body's relationship with food, it's easier to make healthy choices for yourself.
