AS Monaco have officially confirmed that they will be signing Eric Dier (31) from Bayern Munich on a free transfer in the summer, with the midfielder leaving the German champions at the end of his contract.
After Monaco ensured their place in next season’s Champions League with a victory over Olympique Lyonnais over the weekend, the club have turned to preparing for the next campaign by adding some experience to a young squad.
An experienced profile in midfield had been a target during the season, with the club linked to Dier’s England teammate and Ajax midfielder Jordan Henderson (34) during the January transfer window.
Dier, who can also play in defence, has played a key part in Bayern’s return to the summit this season, having made 20 appearances in the league and even contributed two goals and one assist.
Eric Dier leaves Bayern a year after signing permanent contract
Ten years after joining Tottenham Hotspur from Sporting CP, Dier left the club on loan for Bayern on a six-month loan. After triggering a clause for the number of appearances made on loan, this deal was made permanent during the summer with Dier signing a one-year contract.
