has finally spoken out about the real reason behind her split from Peter Andre after years of speculation. The pair famously fell for each other on I'm A Celebrity in 2004 and were married for four years. They had two children, Junior, 19 and Princess, 17, before announcing their separation in 2009. While rumours swirled around Katie's close friendship with dressage rider Andrew Gould, she's now clarified exactly what happened.

Speaking on Paul C Brunson's We Need To Talk podcast, the former model, 46, said: "We broke up because he thought I was having an affair with my dressage rider, and I've never slept with him. I just kept my horse there, and I was happy keeping my horse there, and he [instructor] was married." Katie revealed the split came after repeated claims from Peter, 52, that their relationship was over. "But when me and Pete split, because he used to keep saying, 'That's it. I've had enough. I've had enough'.

"It got to a point where I went, 'Well f***ing divorce me'. And I remember the day, because then I flew to the Maldives with the kids."

She insisted the breakup was not mutual. "That day, I'm at the airport, it's all on Sky News, it wasn't mutual at all. And then I redone a statement saying I don't want to split with Pete, it's Pete that's splitting with me.

"Until this day, me and Pete have never sat down and spoken about it. It's all through lawyers. I've never sat down with him, we probably would've sorted it out but we were kept apart."

At the time of their split, Peter expressed his devastation over Katie taking their children to the Maldives, where they had honeymooned in 2005.

He told the Daily Star: "Being apart from my kids is just breaking my heart. It's destroying me - I'm absolutely gutted."

Revealing it wasn't her choice to split at the time, she said: "Pete is the love of my life. We have children together, and I am devastated and disappointed by his decision to separate and divorce me as I married him for life.

"This is not what I want, and the decision has been taken out of my hands. I will not comment further or do any interviews regarding the separation, but I will always love my Pete.'

Looking back on their love story, Katie told The Sun: "It was a very crazy place to meet someone and have this love story... But I'll tell you what is sad about all of it - we fell in love in the jungle, got married, had kids, had an amazing life but like 20 years on and we don't even speak."

Katie said she would be willing to sit down with Peter on a podcast but added that he would "never go for it".

She is now in a relationship with Married At First Sight star JJ Slater.
