RCB Fans Are Planning An Epic Farewell For Virat Kohli. Will They Pass The Ultimate 'Test'?
news18 | May 15, 2025 9:44 AM CST

Virat Kohli’s sudden exit from Test cricket brought the cricket community to an abrupt halt. How could the cricketer end his Test innings at the ripe age of 36? He had a lot of cricket left in him, expressed many. It was a bitter pill to swallow – a cricketer of Kohli’s calibre not ending his journey with a 50+ batting average felt criminal. A personal loss to many. The batting average decline since the pandemic wasn’t reflective of what Kohli was capable of. He found his lost spark in the shorter format of the beloved sport. The new generation sat and watched long hours of red-ball games without breaking a sweat. Kohli made Test cricket cool. But now he’s gone.

“I would have liked to see #ViratKohli go out of test cricket before a packed stadium. But since that is not to be let us applaud him wherever we are. He told a generation weaned on T20 cricket that test cricket is cool and aspirational. And for that, the game owes him big time," Harsha Bhogle wrote on his ‘X’ page.
This was a sentiment shared far and wide.
But Kohli, in his Instagram statement, expressed that it felt right to hang up his boots. “It’s been 14 years since I first wore the baggy blue in Test cricket. Honestly, I never imagined the journey this format would take me on. It’s tested me, shaped me, and taught me lessons I’ll carry for life. There’s something deeply personal about playing in whites. The quiet grind, the long days, the small moments that no one sees but that stay with you forever. As I step away from this format, it’s not easy — but it feels right," Kohli penned.

The 2025 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) faced a temporary suspension as tensions between India and Pakistan escalated in the aftermath of the Pahalgam massacre that made India respond with “Operation Sindoor" – a series of strategic and targeted attacks against terror camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (Pok).

With the two nations announcing a ceasefire, IPL is all set to resume on May 17 (Saturday).

IPL Revised Schedule

RCB Fans Gearing Up For Ultimate Tribute

RCB fanbase has unwavering, unexplainable loyalty that has backed their franchise despite being trophy-less since the inception of the celebrated league. RCB have come achingly close to touching the coveted possession on multiple occasions but the several letdowns haven’t dampened the spirits of fans or weakened their loyalty towards the Men in Red.

It has only grown stronger with time. And now, they have decided to go an extra mile and celebrate their star batter Virat Kohli’s illustrious Test career most fittingly – ditch the red jersey, don a white one instead!

In what appears to be a “forward" that has been travelling the corners of the web, the message on it is simple yet thoughtful.

“He (Virat Kohli) made so many of us fall in love with Test cricket, and even though I’ll never get to see him play in whites live, I just want him to know how deeply loved he was in his favourite format," a part of the online flyer read.

The target match, as it appears from the viral message, would be RCB’s clash against KKR at M.Chinnaswamy Stadium on May 17.

“For the next RCB match, could you help spread the word and encourage fans to wear Test whites in the stadium as a tribute to Virat Kohli?" the fan, planning the epic tribute, wrote.

“This gesture could be a powerful way to show that his legacy goes far beyond stats – it lives in the hearts of fans," the PSA further reads.

And if you do not have a white jersey, a white tee should also do!

RCB fans, are you ready?
