Former England cricketer Michael Atherton claimed he enjoyed watching Team India star Virat Kohli play every day of his Test career after he announced his early retirement. He said that when Kohli reaches the crease in Test cricket, it is difficult for anybody to look away.
“Watching Kohli always made me feel like I couldn’t take my eyes off of him. I saw that he mentioned the difficulties he had faced playing Test cricket in his retirement statement. Throughout his 123 Tests, I enjoyed seeing him play every day. According to Sky Sports, Atherton said, “He gave Test cricket his all, and that enthusiasm and zeal never seemed to fade.”
Virat Kohli announced his retirement from the format on his official social media account on Monday. Rohit Sharma, the typical opening batsman, ended the game’s longest format last week.
The right-hander, who played in 123 Test matches, finished his career as India’s fourth-highest run scorer with 9,230 runs at an average of 46.85. In addition, he had thirty centuries and thirty-one half-centuries.
Atherton went on to say that he was interested in finding out who will bat for India at number four in Test cricket.
“It seems like India will begin to rebuild and reconfigure their squad at the beginning of a new World Test Championship cycle. Since you’ve only had approximately 15 years of Kohli and Sachin Tendulkar before that, you sort of feel sorry for the guy who has to follow him since we don’t know who will replace him at No. 4 yet,” he said.
Before the England series began, Kohli and Rohit ended their Test careers. England and Team India will face off in a five-match Test series.
In addition to assigning someone to the number four berth, the Indian management must choose a replacement for former captain Rohit. Despite Bumrah being the previous captain Rohit’s deputy in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, Shubman Gill is reportedly the front-runner to assume the leadership mantle. When Rohit decided not to play in the last Test match in Sydney, he took over as captain in Perth.
