After getting this prestigious post, Tokyo and Paris Olympics medalist Neeraj Chopra can now get one lakh rupees as salary. Apart from this, he will also get many other facilities.
Neeraj Chopra was first enrolled as a Junior Commissioned Officer in the Indian Army on 26 August 2016 in the rank of Naib Subedar. For his commendable service, he was awarded the Arjuna Award in 2018 and the Vishisht Seva Medal in 2021. Later in the same year, he was promoted to the rank of Subedar. After being awarded the Param Vishisht Seva Medal, the highest peacetime medal of the Indian Armed Forces in 2022, he was made Subedar Major. Now he has become a Lieutenant Colonel. This announcement has been made in the Weekly Public Magazine and 'The Gazette of India' of the Government of India.
How much salary will Neeraj Chopra get
Neeraj Chopra's appointment to the post of Lieutenant Colonel has come into effect from 16 April 2025. In the army, a Lieutenant Colonel usually gets a salary of ₹ 1,20,000 to ₹ 1,50,000 per month. Apart from this, facilities like Military Service Pay, Field Area Allowance, Special Forces Allowance, Uniform Allowance, DA, HRA, Transport Allowance are also available.
However, persons with honorary ranks are usually not paid salary because they are not in active service. But if Neeraj ever goes for training or special duty, he can get salary and facilities like a regular officer. This salary will also be there as long as he is on duty.
Neeraj Chopra is the first track and field athlete to win an individual gold medal for the country. He won the first gold for India in the Tokyo Olympics. After this, he also won a silver medal in the 2024 Paris Olympics. Now Neeraj is going to participate in the Diamond League in Doha on 16 May.

The Territorial Army is a reserve force of the Indian Army, which people join in peace time as part of their job or business. But in situations like war, emergency or natural disaster, they are activated so that they can help the regular army of our country. However, this is a completely voluntary service.

Before Neeraj Chopra, former Indian cricket captain MS Dhoni was awarded the honorary rank of Lieutenant Colonel in the Territorial Army in 2011. Dhoni also completed military training with the Parachute Regiment. While legendary cricketer and 1983 World Cup-winning captain Kapil Dev was awarded the rank of Lieutenant Colonel in the Indian Territorial Army in 2008.
Known for his commitment to discipline and patriotism, Dev has consistently supported the armed forces and participated in military-related events. 2008 Olympic gold medallist shooter Abhinav Bindra was conferred the rank of Lieutenant Colonel (honorary) in 2011.
