The story dates back to the 1965 India-Pakistan war where Pakistan tried to capture this airbase. As per a report by Aajtak Pakistan tried to land its commandos on this airbase but due to the bravery of the locals they were forced to retreat. As a part of the historic failure of Pakistan the 42 commandos were caught and 12 were shot dead while one commando escaped.
