Pakistani showbiz celebrities responded strongly when a group of Indian extremists went and vandalized the popular Karachi Bakery in India, as the tensions between the two nations reached a boiling point.
Last week, as Pakistan’s military assertively reacted to Indian provocations at the border, Pakistani stars continued to advance peace messages from global platforms. Within India, however, the tensions spilled over and extremist elements targeted their very own Muslim citizens.
Amid the hostile situation, a faction of Indian hardliners ransacked a bakery that took its name after Pakistan’s largest city, Karachi. A clip of the action went viral on social media with widespread condemnation.
Popular Pakistani fashion designer and actor Deepak Perwani went on X (previously Twitter) to post the footage, condemning the tolerance and hypocrisy. He wrote, “These are very intolerant people. We have Bombay Bakery, Bombay Sweets, and Bombay Mithai in Pakistan—no one is looting their stores. This is shameful behavior.”
Actress Sajal Aly also brought the issue up on Instagram. She posted a photo of Pakistanis coming together in support outside a Bombay Bakery in Hyderabad, Pakistan, as a symbol of peace and unity.
Posting about it, Sajal said, “In a world full of noise, compassion and love are the real truths.”
Earlier, Following Pakistan’s forceful military response to Indian airstrikes, Hindu extremists in India attacked the historic Karachi Bakery in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh, solely due to its name.
The bakery, operating since 1953, came under attack as protesters accused it of bearing a name linked to Pakistan. Demonstrators from a hardline Hindu group demanded that the bakery immediately change its name, declaring that names resembling Pakistani cities were unacceptable.
Protesters climbed the rooftop, attempted to remove the signboard, and caused damage to the building. Police arrived in large numbers to disperse the mob, but tensions remained high.
