Rennes have announced Sporting Director Frederic Massara has left the Ligue 1 club, after less than a season in charge of Red and black‘s sporting policy. The former AC Milan Sporting Director was the driving force behind Rennes’ extensive recruitment drive last summer, but most of the signings Massara has overseen have failed to meet expectations.
“By mutual agreement, Stade Rennais F.C. and Frederic Massara, appointed Sporting Director on July 10, 2024, have decided to end their collaboration at the end of the last Ligue 1 matchday”, Rennes’ statement reads. “SRFC acknowledge his commitment over the last eleven months and wishes Frederic, whose professionalism and personality have been appreciated by all, all the best for the rest of his career.“
Massara will be replaced as Rennes Sporting Director by Strasbourg head of recruitment Loïc Désiré, whose exit has been made official by the BlueCo-owned Ligue 1 club. Rennes will put an end to their disappointing Ligue 1 season with an away trip to Marseille, who have just confirmed their qualification for next season’s Champions League.
