Duong will travel to Japan to attend the award ceremony. He expressed his gratitude to the organizers for providing a platform that celebrates musical diversity and acknowledges the contributions of international artists.

“I believe music is the universal language of humanity, a bridge between cultures, and a space where hearts can connect and empathize,” Duong said. “I hope to contribute to bringing Vietnamese music closer to the world, allowing our melodies and lyrics, rich with Vietnamese identity, to resonate on international stages and touch the hearts of those unfamiliar with our country.”

According to the event’s official website, the International Special Awards category recognizes influential artists from six countries, including China, South Korea, Thailand, Indonesia, the Philippines, and Vietnam. This initiative seeks to foster greater musical connections between Japan and other Asian countries.

The award’s panel of judges praised Duong’s contemporary music style, which aligns with the award’s criteria. His song “Tai Sinh” (Rebirth), released last year, has also had a significant impact in Vietnam.

The Japan Music Awards, founded in 2024, is organized by the Japan Culture and Entertainment Industry Promotion Association (CEIPA) in partnership with Japan’s Ministry of Economy, Trade, and Industry (METI). The aim of the event is to elevate Japan’s standing in the global music market and expand its international audience.

This year, over 5,000 industry professionals, including singers, producers, music label staff, critics, journalists, and international judges, will form the awards’ judging panel. A total of 60 awards will be presented, with winners chosen by both the art council and the public.

Born Nguyen Tung Duong, the 42-year-old singer is widely celebrated for his powerful voice and unique musical style. He first gained recognition after competing in the Sao Mai Diem Hen (Morning Star Rendezvous) music competition in 2004. Since then, he has continued to build his career, releasing six studio albums, holding 11 live shows, and winning numerous prestigious awards.

His song “Tai Sinh” earned the Song of the Year award at the Dedication Music Awards last year, often regarded as Vietnam’s version of the Grammy Awards.
