Boycott Turkey: After the conflict between India and Pakistan, the country's leading educational institutions are suspending their academic agreements with Turkey. Turkey had supported Pakistan during the conflict, after which Turkey was boycotted by India.

Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI), and Chhatrapati Shahu Ji Maharaj University (CSJMU), Kanpur, have suspended several academic agreements made with Turkey's universities.

'We stand with the nation': JNU.
On Wednesday, January 14, the academic agreement made by JNU with Turkey's Inonu University was suspended. The official statement issued by the university reads, "Due to national security reasons, the MoU between JNU and Inonu University, Turkey, has been suspended till further notice."

Inonu University, located in Malatya, Turkey, had an academic partnership with JNU as part of efforts to promote cross-cultural research and student collaboration. JNU has taken this decision citing national security. The university also said that 'JNU stands with the nation.'

Jamia Millia Islamia stands firmly with the nation: JMI.

Delhi-based Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) has also suspended academic agreements made with Turkey given national security and the current geopolitical situation. The JMI administration said that maintaining such relations in the current circumstances is not in the national interest.

The statement issued by the university said, "For national security reasons, any Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Jamia Millia Islamia, New Delhi and any institution affiliated to the Government of the Republic of Turkey has been suspended with immediate effect till further orders. Jamia Millia Islamia stands firmly with the nation."

Kanpur University also canceled the agreement.
Chhatrapati Shahu Ji Maharaj University, Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh, has suspended the agreement made earlier with Istanbul University of Turkey with immediate effect. The university's VC, Vinay Pathak, sent a letter to Istanbul University clarifying that this decision has been taken because of Turkiye's stance in support of Pakistan.

The VC said that it is not appropriate to maintain academic relations with an educational institution of a country that openly opposes India's sovereignty and territorial integrity.

Protests against Turkiye are happening across the country.

These three universities had signed agreements with Turkiye's institutions for academic exchange and joint research programs. But given the current situation, prestigious institutions are now distancing themselves from Türkiye. It is worth noting that since Turkiye supported Pakistan, protests have intensified at many levels in India, including business organizations.
