India’s New Delhi According to a statement from Lancashire cricket, England’s renowned seamer James Anderson is ready to return to professional cricket ten months after his last Test match against the West Indies at Lord’s last year.
James Anderson was included in the 14-man Lancashire Men’s team on Thursday for the May 17 start of the Rothesay County Championship game against Derbyshire at Emirates Old Trafford.
After overcoming a calf injury that kept him out of the first five games of the season, Anderson will play for the Red Rose for the first time in eleven months and since he retired from Test cricket.
On the eve of his 188th and last Test match, Anderson made his final Lancashire appearance in July, defeating Nottinghamshire at Southport with first-innings figures of 7 for 35.
After taking 704 Test wickets—the most by an English bowler and the most by any fast bowler in history—the 43-year-old announced his retirement from international cricket in 2024. With a last match against the West Indies at Lord’s in July 2024, he concluded his England career after playing 188 Test matches. He made his debut against Zimbabwe in May 2003, marking the beginning of his adventure at the same location.
Following Keaton Jennings’ resignation as four-day captain on Tuesday, Marcus Harris, an Australian, will be playing his first game as temporary captain. With 749, Harris leads both categories in the Rothesay County Championship in runs scored.
After sustaining a side strain in the season’s first game at Lord’s, Tom Aspinwall is still out. After five games, Derbyshire is undefeated after winning one and drawing the other four. They are 21 points behind league leaders Leicestershire (95), with 74 points.
Marcus Harris (captain), Josh Bohannon, Tom Hartley, Matty Hurst, Keaton Jennings, Michael Jones, Anderson Phillip, Ollie Sutton, Luke Wells, Will Williams, James Anderson, Tom Bailey, George Balderson, George Bell, and Josh Bohannon make up the Lancashire team.
