PTC Web Desk: In a strategic move to strengthen its diplomatic offensive against Pakistan, the Indian government is sending multi-party delegations of Members of Parliament (MPs) on a global outreach mission to inform and engage foreign governments about the recent conflict and India’s official position on the matter, senior government sources confirmed on Friday.
The outreach effort is being coordinated by Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju and is expected to begin soon after May 22. Invitations have already been dispatched to selected MPs across party lines. Each delegation will include five to six parliamentarians, who will travel to key global capitals, including Washington DC, London, Pretoria, Doha, and Abu Dhabi.
While participation is open to all parties, senior leaders from the ruling National Democratic Alliance (NDA) are expected to lead these missions. The objective is to present India’s side of the story following the terrorist attack in Pahalgam on April 22, in which 26 civilians lost their lives to militants reportedly linked to Pakistan-based terror outfits.
India responded to the Pahalgam massacre with a targeted counteroffensive dubbed ‘Operation Sindoor’, which struck terror infrastructure located in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK). In retaliation, Pakistan attempted drone strikes on Indian cities and military establishments, raising tensions and pushing the two nuclear-armed neighbours to the brink of war for four tense days.
The crisis was defused following high-level military talks on May 10, where both nations agreed to de-escalate. In the aftermath, the Indian government convened an all-party meeting to discuss the national security situation. Leaders from across the political spectrum expressed support for the government’s firm handling of Pakistan’s provocations.
Simultaneously, India intensified its international lobbying, engaging foreign ministers and top officials from major powers to rally diplomatic support. The upcoming MP delegations are part of this larger outreach strategy aimed at ensuring the global community understands India’s position and the severity of the threat posed by cross-border terrorism.
Following the Pahalgam attack, India also announced a comprehensive set of punitive diplomatic actions against Pakistan. These include: Cancellation of visas for Pakistani nationals, downsizing of Pakistan’s diplomatic presence in India, closure of land borders and airspace for Pakistani transit, suspension of bilateral trade and economic exchanges and freezing of the Indus Waters Treaty, a key water-sharing agreement between the two countries.
