Sanjay Manjrekar, a former cricket player, believes that there is no need to fear in the wake of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma’s double retirements, citing the way Indian cricket recovered after the renowned “Fab Four” left the longest format.

Two contemporary mainstays, Rohit and Kohli, have said goodbye to Test cricket in less than a week, raising questions about India’s future in the red-ball format.

Manjrekar compared it to the period in Indian cricket history when the Fab Four—Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid, VVS Laxman, and Sourav Ganguly—left the game.

“I am aware that some fans would be worried. When the Fab Four all resigned at once, there was a panic, but guess what? In a video he shared on Instagram a few years later, Manjrekar claimed that India was the world’s top Test squad.

Soon after the period of transition, India had become the top-ranked team in the ICC Test rankings. According to Manjrekar, “anyone who sort of comes through that kind of grind has to be quality talent,” as long as the sport is popular in India and there are enough young players who are eager to play for India—there are thousands in India—and as long as I firmly believe in this.

The 59-year-old also emphasized how a stronger bowling assault emerged throughout the time after the Fab Four’s departure. Let’s not panic, but it will take some time. Recall that the Indian bowling quality increased after the Fab Four. The same thing may occur here. India will remain among the best teams in the world, and you’ll find new bowlers and stars,” he remarked.
