
Importance of CGHS Scheme
CGHS (Central Government Health Scheme) is a very beneficial scheme for central government employees and pensioners. Under this scheme, beneficiaries and their dependents are provided cheap, easy and quality health services. Now, the government has taken an important step to make CGHS more effective and technically advanced. From 28 April 2025, the new Health Management Information System (HMIS) will be implemented under CGHS, which will replace old software.
Need new hmis
The old software of CGHS was in use since 2005, which was now outdated according to digital standards and cyber security requirements. The Ministry of Health decided to update it and a new HMIS has been developed with the help of C-DAC (Center for Development of Advanced Computing). This new system ensures rapid access to health services, greater transparency and better facilities for beneficiaries.
Characteristics of new systems
1. PAN-based unique identity:
Every beneficiary will be given a unique PAN-based identity number, which will bring transparency in duplicate record removal and eligibility confirmation. All beneficiaries have been advised to link their PAN card to CGHS Benefitory ID.
2. Digital Verification and Payment Tracking:
The integrated arrangement with the Bharat Kosh will now be automatically verified by contraction payments. Manual entry error, refund problem and process will be delayed. Note, now CGHS Payment only www.cighs.mohfw.gov.in Will be able to be done from the portal itself.
3. Pre-payment application verification:
Now before applying for CGHS card, your eligibility and amount will be found information, which will reduce the chances of rejection.
4. Online Card Amendment Services:
Category updates such as card transfer, change in the condition of dependents or becoming pensioners have now become completely online.
5. Real-time status tracking and alert:
Every update on your application status will now be available through SMS and email.
6. password reset mandatory:
For cyber security, it has been made mandatory to reset passwords while logging for all users for the first time.
7. Identification of the department through DDO/PAO code:
Now the employee’s department will be identified with the DDO and PAO code given in salary slip.
CGHS new version of mobile app
CGHS Mobile App has also been relaunched, including:
- Digital CGHS card direct access
- Real-time status tracking
- E-referral and appointment scheduling
- Helpdesk and local CGHS offices facility facilities
Important warning
The Ministry of Health has clarified that any payment made through the Bharata Kosh after 27 April 2025 will be considered invalid. All the beneficiaries have been advised to link PAN to their CGHS ID and if there is a mistake, then go to the website and apply for improvement.
