Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has called for a more aggressive stance by India against terrorism in the wake of the recent attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, which claimed 26 lives. Speaking to reporters on Friday, he criticised Pakistan’s alleged role in supporting terrorism and urged the Indian government to act decisively to prevent future incidents.

The Chief Minister also questioned former US President Donald Trump’s repeated claims that his administration had mediated a ceasefire between India and Pakistan. Without directly addressing the veracity of those statements, Siddaramaiah expressed skepticism over their impact and relevance given the continuing threat of terrorism.

"26 people were killed in Kashmir (Pahalgam) by terrorists. Pakistan is the one which is helping and sheltering terrorists, and according to me, we got an opportunity and utilising it we should have taken more severe action against terrorists, and should have ensured that Pakistan does not help and cooperate with terrorists again, and terroris should have been destroyed," Siddaramaiah told reporters here, as per PTI.

Operation Sindoor

On May 7, 2025, India launched Operation Sindoor, a military campaign aimed at dismantling terrorist infrastructure across several sites in Pakistan and Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir (PoK). This operation was carried out in direct response to the Pahalgam terror attack.

The offensive focused on nine terror camps, with the objective of disrupting terrorist networks targeting India. The Indian armed forces executed coordinated and precise strikes during the mission. India also took several diplomatic measures in the aftermath of the attack including the suspension of Indus Waters Treaty with Pakistan.

Meanwhile, Pahalgam terror attack claimed the lives of 26 people, including newly married couples, an Indian Navy officer, and a local Muslim pony ride operator, Syed Adil Hussain Shah, who was killed while courageously trying to disarm one of the assailants.
