Hyderabad: In the last three months, cancer surgeons from Yashoda Hospitals, Somajiguda, have successfully performed limb salvage surgeries on eight patients who were diagnosed with malignant bone cancers, providing life altering outcomes for patients, ranging from 8 to 50 years of age, both nationally and internationally.

Instead of opting for limb amputation while dealing with malignant bone cancers, the specialists including Dr Sunil Dachepalli, senior robotic orthopedic surgeon, Dr. Sachin Marda, senior surgical oncologist, and Dr Harish Kancharla, senior medical oncologist, took-up limb salvage surgery allowing for the removal of tumors while preserving limb function.

Senior cancer surgeons said that this was possible due to integration of joint replacement as an alternative to amputation. “Limb salvage surgery has changed bone cancer treatment for better. By combining orthopedic and oncological expertise, we can now preserve not just the limb, but also the patient’s independence and quality of life,” said Dr Sunil Dachepalli.

Dr Sachin Marda and Dr Harish Kancharla pointed out that early diagnosis, precise surgical interventions are crucial to treat bone cancers.
